Public Works

The Public Works Department is responsible for the overall maintenance of streets, sidewalks, alleys, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, parks, trails, arenas, outdoor rinks, animal control, forestry, and weed control.

      We oversee approximately 117 miles of roads and alleyways, 17 public parking lots totaling 23.5 acres, and 31 miles of sidewalk. We are also responsible for the inspection and maintenance of the City’s 87.7 miles of sanitary sewer, including 1,519 manholes and 74 lift stations and the inspection and maintenance of the City’s 29 miles of storm water system, which consists of 102 ponds, 2 rain gardens and 6 pump stations. 

     The Parks and Arena Department is responsible for 325 acres of green space, 1 mile of public beach, 13 public bathrooms, 10 playgrounds, 19 park shelters, 5 tennis courts, 8 pickleball courts, 2 volleyball courts, 1 skateboard park, 2 Frisbee golf courses, 12 softball/baseball fields, 9 soccer fields, 7 parks, the Kent Freeman arena, the Pavilion and 3 outdoor rinks.
