Position Objectives:

The Liquor Store Part Time Worker performs retail sales transactions at the Detroit Lakes Municipal Liquor Store.  Responsible for stocking sales room shelves, filling orders, inter-acting with customers, handling sales, operating electronic registers, marking merchandise and general up keep and maintenance of the store.

 

Reassignment of duties within the job description frequently occurs depending on the demand of the job.  Subject to work days, evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays.  Subject to work odd shifts.

 

These duties and responsibilities are varied in frequency and duration from day to day and season to season.  No one duty or grouping of duties would necessarily constitute a full time position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates electronic cash registers for customer sales, collects funds and processes sales.
  • Assists customers with selection, purchase and carry-out of merchandise.
  • Stocks sales room shelves in accordance with established plans.
  • Assists in maintaining perpetual inventory of store merchandise and conducts periodic inventory counts.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and complaints.  Resolves situation or refers to supervisor.
  • Performs general housekeeping functions to maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Reports and responds to shoplifting violations in accordance with established policy.
  • Attends training and staff meetings as directed to acquire and maintain knowledge of policies, procedures and legal requirements.
  • Makes recommendations to supervisors to improve store operations.

Minimum Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge of liquor, beer and wine products to effectively assist customers.
  • Ability to provide effective customer service and possess effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to stock shelves with merchandise.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate store equipment, including electronic cash registers.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts to achieve organizational objectives.

 

Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements

Positions in this job typically require frequent standing, walking, intermittent bending or stooping, kneeling or squatting, and keyboarding. This position is generally light-duty, requiring exertion of 25 pounds and may require the exertion up to 60 pounds of force on occasion and the ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move objects.
