License Required

The City of Detroit Lakes requires all dogs and cats within the City and over the age of three months to be licensed annually. You may purchase your license online on the Licenses and Permits Page. Proof of rabies vaccination must be provided at time of licensing. Your pet license will expire on December 31^st of each year, regardless of the date it was purchased.

City Ordinance 503 prohibits any person from keeping more than three dogs, cats, or combination thereof within city limits. If you have three animals, Ordinance 503 requires the sterilization of all three. Proof of sterilization must be provided when licensing the animals.
