Cannabis Business

The City of Detroit Lakes processes local registration for cannabis businesses. Businesses must complete the application and adhere to the laws set forth in the City of Detroit Lakes Municipal Code and the State of MN.  

Application & Important things to remember are:

• Completed application must be submitted  
• Permit fee: Depends on which license type is applied for
• The City of Detroit Lakes shall prohibit the operation of a cannabis business within:
• 1,000 feet of a school
• 500 feet of a day care
• 500 feet of a residential treatment facility
• 500 feet of an attraction within a public park that is regularly used by minors, including a playground or athletic field
• 5,000 linear feet of another cannabis retail business, other than Lower potency hemp edible retailers. 

 

Applications are considered for approval by City Council on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, once approved, applications will be processed and issued within 2-3 business days.
