Excavate

The City of Detroit Lakes requires Excavators to be licensed.  Business Owners must complete the application and adhere to the laws set forth in the City of Detroit Lakes Municipal Code.  Excavators are required to be licensed in the City of Detroit Lakes and shall secure a Right-of-Way Excavation permit before digging is done in the right of way or municipal easement.

Applications are considered for approval by City Council on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, once approved, applications will be processed and issued within 2-3 business days. Right-of-Way Excavation Permits are typically processed within 5 business days.
