PUBLIC HEARING & SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING NOTICE

In order to accommodate the schedules of Council Member to allow them attend the public hearing relative to a local option sales tax, the meeting previously schedule for February 28th will now be held on MONDAY, MARCH 6, 2017 at 5:00PM.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Detroit Lakes will meet in the Council Chambers of the City Administration Building, 1025 Roosevelt Avenue, on Monday, March 6, 2017 at 5:00 PM to consider a resolution authorizing the Mayor and City Administrator to seek legislation authorizing the voters of the City of Detroit Lakes to vote on the establishment of a City Sales Tax for the City of Detroit Lakes.

All persons who desire to be heard with reference to the proposed City Sales Tax will be heard at this meeting.

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE

Becker County and the City of Detroit Lakes invite you to a public input meeting regarding proposed improvements to West Lake Drive between Legion Road and County Road 6. The proposed improvements include street reconstruction, multi-use trail, stormwater collection and treatment, lighting, and relocation of electrical distribution lines.

The public meeting will be held Thursday, March 2, 2017 at the City Administration Building, 1025 Roosevelt Avenue, Detroit Lakes.  The open house will begin at 5:00 PM and presentation by City and County staff will begin at 5:30.  The purpose of this meeting is to review the general scope and improvement concepts, project impacts, project costs, and tentative schedule.  We are early in the development of this project and anticipate additional public meetings as the project further develops.   Your feedback and comments are encouraged and are crucial to develop a plan we believe most residents can support.

SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

The City of Detroit Lakes will hold a Special Council Meeting on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 4:00 PM in the Council Chambers of the City Administration Building, 1025 Roosevelt Avenue, Detroit Lakes, MN to give consideration to approving the Facility Plan for West Avenue and Willow Street.  The purpose of this meeting is to meet the March 3rd deadline to include the project for possible funding from the State of Minnesota.

Outdoor Rink

Due to the unseasonably warm weather and water on the rinks, Peoples Park Outdoor Rink will be closed today, Friday, January 20th thru Sunday, January 22nd.   We will re-evaluate the ice conditions on Monday to determine when we will be re-opening the rink.

Help Keep Fire Hydrants Accessible

Wintry weather can create fire safety hazards, such as ice or heavy snowfall that can obstruct fire hydrants. In an emergency, every second matters. Fire hydrants that are blocked, concealed or difficult to access due to snow or ice can impede emergency fire response. Hydrants covered in snow can be difficult to locate, and uncovering them can waste valuable time needed during a fire fight.
 
You can help reduce the risk by keeping nearby fire hydrants accessible and clear of ice and snow. Keeping them clear can mean easier access to water and more time doing what really matters — fighting the fire.
